Horse Racing Strategies
Our members often ask us for ways to use the data, and our horse ratings more effectively, so we have come up with some strategies for you to use, which will help you shortlist your potential horse selections for the day.
We look for patterns in the data which we then share with you, to give you pointers towards how to use our ratings and the data to your advantage, and help you make better betting decisions.
Finding a strategy that works for you, is the key to making better decisions when it comes to betting on the horses. We always suggest that you paper trade a new strategy to test it before using real money. This enables you to fine tune the strategy to your requirements.
Our horse racing strategies below use data from our ratings as well as a number of other sources. For most we have turned them into our Smart Selections which will automatically list the horses racing today using the criteria for each strategy. These are available to our Gold & Platinum members.
Using one or more of our strategies is a good way to start using our data and horse ratings to your advantage.
Four Tops
Our Four Tops racing strategy uses our FRN rating. The FRN is our unique Form Ratings Number, we like to call it our “special sauce”.
As the Four Tops name suggests, these are the top 4 horses today who have the highest FRN of all Race Cards.
Basically sift through all the race cards for the horses which have the highest FRN for the day.

Best Last Time
Our Best Last Time Smart Selection will list horses that are top rated, with the highest FRN first and then takes the horse with the 1st horse having an LR with at least 25 points clear of the next best.
To find horses that meet this criteria, look for those that have the highest FRN first, with 1st horse having LR 25 or more than 2nd horse

Ideally Suited
Our Ideally Suited strategy involves selecting the top four horses that are highest rated on today’s cards for our HRS rating.
These four horses are rated as the most suited on their race cards for the day. This stands them in great state to be there or there abouts in their respective races.
In short, select the Top four horses with highest HRS across all of today’s race cards.

Box Tickers
Our Box Tickers strategy takes the Four Tops strategy one step further to narrow down the selection process.
These are horses who ranked in the top 4 FRN (Form Ratings Number) who also have the top ratings for LR (Last Race), SPD (Speed) & HRS (Horse Race Score) in their races.
Look out for the Top four horses with highest FRN and Top ratings for LR / SPD / HRS:

Fast Four
The Fast Four strategy takes the Top 4 horses with the highest SPD (Speed Rating) over all the day’s race cards.
This strategy will find the fastest horses of the day, but be wary, the SPD uses past performance to come up with the rating, so may not be as accurate for a given days circumstances (ie weather, going, field etc). Be sure to read more about our SPD rating.
In brief, you’re looking for the top four horses as ranked by the SPD rating across the whole day’s race cards.

The LR Rating uses various form factors relating to the horses last run. Check out more information about our LR Rating
In brief: Rank all horses running today by LR, choose top 4.

False Favourites
For our False Favourite system, we are looking for the clear leader in the forecast betting market. We are looking to see if there are at least three horses who have better HRS rating on the card. Then we’re looking to lay the leader of the forecast betting market.
Variations:
We are looking to take this one step further for a future Smart Selection, by ruling out any selections which have the top FRN score for their race.
Look out for horses which are drifting from their Forecast price to rule out any surprise results.
DIY: Look for three horses with better HRS score than the market leader. Lay the market leader.

Most Expected
Our Most Expected horse racing strategy looks for horses who are top rated across FRN/LR/HRS and SPD are the highest for their card.
The FRN is at least 25 points higher than the next best and the forecast odds are shorter than 3/1.
DIY: Look for the horses which top the columns on the race cards, check the FRN of the top horse is at least 25 points clear of the next best and then check the forecast odds are below 3/1
These highly rated horses should have a better than average chance of running well in their race.

Well Placed
Well Placed Smart Selection filters out top rated horses across the cards, where the FRN of the 1st and 2nd horses are less than 25 points apart and the odds of the 2nd horse are more than 4/1 forecast, so that there’s place value to be had (not each way).
DIY: Top Rated, highest FRN first, with 1st horse having less than FRN 25 than 2nd horse, odds 4/1 or better.

One Two… Place Smart Selection filters out top rated horses across the cards, where the FRN of the 1st and 2nd horses are less than 25 points apart and the odds of the 1st horse are more than 1/1 but less than 4/1 forecast. Higher strike rate, but lower prices.
DIY: Top Rated, highest FRN first, with 1st horse having less than FRN 25 than 2nd horse, odds better than 1/1 but less than 4/1.

Dark Horses
Previously – Dark Horses
Our Dark Horse selections are horses which have no previous data, so their first outing, often higher odds, but as they are unproven, their performance will be difficult to predict.
DIY: Look for horses with zeros (or very low number) in the columns – this means that there’s no data for the horse.
Find out more about the Dark Horses Strategy as well as a summary of results and a list of horses selected over the last 6 months.
Progressives
This strategy was born out of our Facebook Group where one of our members suggested looking at horses which were getting progressively better with each race.
DIY: Look for horses with an LR, which must be higher than the 2LR which is higher than the 3LR
Better & Better
Better and Better system looks for horses which have the top LR and then a better rating in the 2LR or 3LR column. We are only using races which have a full set of ratings – no zeros. If there are more than one horse selected in a race, then both are discounted.
DIY: Look for horses where the LR is better than the 2LR or 3LR in races which have full ratings. Discount races where there are more than one qualifying horse.

All-Weather Allstars
We’ve been taking a look at race type strategies, and in particular All Weather races for this strategy. Our All Weather All Stars strategy looks to find races on all weather tracks, which are handicapped. From this we look for the horses which are rated as top SPD.
Looking at All Weather races, will remove some of the factors which can influence a race, such as going, weather, ground and more. Handicapped races mean that the horses have some form, and top SPD means the fastest horse is selected.
IMPORTANT – this strategy seems to favour the summer months, May-September – there’s mixed results in April too. One to watch!
Remember if there are two horses sharing the Top SPD, then we do not place a bet on the race.
In short, look for the top SPD rated horses in AW handicap races only.
